What kind of a title is that? That is crazy, bordering on heresy! Or is it? I thought it was "once saved always saved?" Let us clear our minds and take God's word, which is perfectly preserved in the King James Bible and dig deep and find the TRUTH. If you have read my testimony you will know of my deep distrust of all structured, so called Christianity. I will no longer take anyone's word for truth until I have examined it myself and I hope you dear reader will do the same. Salvation is too important to trust any person with except to our Lord Jesus and His word. Amen?
In the book of Colossians, Paul makes it abundantly clear:
Col 1:21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
Col 1:22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
Col 1:23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;
So Paul starts off real positive in saying that we were once enemies of God in our minds by wicked works (or sin), and finishes off these first two verses saying that Christ in the body of His flesh has reconciled us to God by the cross, holy and perfect in His sight. Sounds pretty good right? But what follows? If we CONTINUE IN THE FAITH, not being moved away from the HOPE of the gospel. It sounds to me like what I was told on "christian radio" was not true, that if I said a prayer I had a guaranteed one-way ticket to heaven no matter if I stayed in the faith. This is the way I see it. God came down from heaven in the form of a man named Jesus Christ. This MAN then horribly died on a cross where the bible says He bore ALL my sins! So this MAN took the punishment that was meant for me! This means I have His righteousness and He has my sin! Not only that but the Heavenly Father raised Him up again from death and hell and seated Him at the right hand of His throne in glory and honour. And one day He is coming back to take all those that believed in Him to a glorious city that has foundations, whose builder and maker is God, where there will be no more tears or pain or sin, and we will have a great big family reunion where we will see Jesus face to face! I don't know, that sounds pretty good to me. My God died for me so that I might live with him in GLORY! How could I draw back from this? Who would want to draw back from the hope of eternal life? Is it possible to stop believing once this hope and faith is in you? Is it possible to draw back if the Spirit of Christ is in you? If I turned my back on God I reckon I would be so depressed, I would rather not live. I am not talking about missing devotions or church but returning to the life of sin wherein once I was enslaved to. All my joy comes from the knowledge and the promises of God. For me Jesus is not all I need, He is all I have! I would like to suggest that someone who has claimed to be saved and goes back to a life of sin, was never saved in the first place, but Paul would not give us a warning if it were not possible. Lets also keep in mind what we are drawing back from. FAITH and HOPE. So the correct question is not "did you once believe?" but "are you believing today?". The correct question is not "did you once repent (turn to God)?" but "are you still repenting today?"
Moving on, the author of Hebrews had this to say;
Heb 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
Heb 10:39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition (damnation) but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
Writing on this topic got me to thinking about the apostle Paul, when he was on the ship and a great storm came up. God told Paul to tell the others not to worry, nobody would die. Well the other men were frightened and were going to jump into life rafts, and God told Paul to warn them, that if anyone got off the ship they would die. We know that no one died. Was God right? Of course. Every time. He told them that no one would die, but if anyone were to get off the ship then they would. God warns Christians not to draw back from the faith into perdition. Is He right? Of Course. What am I going to do? Stay in the faith.
Jesus spoke of this in the gospel of John:
John 8:31 ¶ Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
1John 2:24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
We see that Jesus also gives us a warning to let that abide in us which we heard from the beginning. Dear reader, I don't know about you but I am going to abide in the faith until either Jesus returns, or I am present with Him in the spirit and apart from this dead body. I'm going to live in the hope that one day soon Jesus will come and I will be with Him for eternity. And when we have this eternal hope, we can walk without fear of anything or any person. Living with peace and joy in Christ for the rest of our days on this earth with full assurance of our salvation and with confidence that what God promises, He can and will also provide. Grace and Peace be upon you all.
Romans 4:5 To him that worketh not but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
Jesus died for the UNGODLY! Friend, that is you and me!
It's a FREE GIFT. Dwell on that, FREE GIFT! You cannot do anything to earn it and and the only people the gift is offered to, is THE UNGODLY! This means YOU! This is wonderful news and you don't have to DO ANYTHING, just believe. It's not what you do my friend, it's what He has done... Tetelesti. It is finished.
